＜氷雪の景色に春を見る＞
6年前の今日、2019年2月21日は朝からタウシュベツ川橋梁へと足を運んでいた。その年は2月後半に入っても湖上を歩くことができたので、まだ名残のある冬の光景を撮り収めようと思っていた。
森を抜けて五の沢のあたりに出ると、糠平湖には大きな割れ目が走り、沢沿いに氷が崩れていた。冬の初めに広がっていた単調な雪の平原は、もう見られなくなっている。
雲の切れ間から、ときおり日差しが射し込む朝だった。北海道に移り住んでずいぶん歳月が経ったせいか、こんな穏やかな光を見ただけで春の気配を感じてしまう。たぶん、こちらで暮らすようにならなければ、こうした光景もまた真冬のものと捉えていたのに違いない。

Six years ago today—February 21, 2019—I headed out to the Taushubetsu Bridge first thing in the morning. That year, you could still walk on the frozen lake even in late February, so I wanted to capture what was left of the winter scenery.
After passing through the woods to an area called Gono-sawa, I found huge cracks in the ice on Lake Nukabira, and parts of it were breaking up near the stream. The uniform, snowy plain that existed earlier in the season was nowhere to be seen.
It was a morning where sunlight occasionally broke through the clouds. Maybe because I’ve lived in Hokkaido for so long, just a hint of gentle light can make me sense the start of spring. If I hadn’t moved here, I’d probably still consider this kind of scene to be well within winter. But now, it feels like the season’s already changing.
