〈沈む夕陽を眺めた日〉
14年前の今日、2011年3月13日。夕方になってから糠平湖を歩いてタウシュベツ川橋梁を撮りに出かけた。
あのころは、橋のまわりに人影はほとんどなく、雪面に残る足跡もわずかだった。大勢の人たちが足を運ぶようになるのは、もう少し先のことだ。
ウペペサンケ山の向こうに沈んでいく夕日を見送り、空気がぐっと冷えこむなか、空が暗くなっていくのをじっと見上げていた。無数のカラスが湖上を越えて森へと帰っていくシルエットが、ほのかな明かりを帯びた空に浮かぶ。冬の終わりと春の入り口が同居するような、なんとも不思議な時間だった。
日が沈んでから2時間もすると、橋の上空に星がぽつぽつと増えていった。真っ暗になる前に、もと来た道を辿って帰途についた。
Fourteen years ago today, on March 13, 2011, I decided to head out late in the afternoon, walking across frozen Lake Nukabira to photograph the Taushubetsu Bridge. Back then, hardly anyone else was around the bridge, and there were only a few footprints in the snow. It would be a while yet before large numbers of people started coming here.
After watching the sun set behind Mt. Upepesanke, I stood there feeling the air grow colder as the sky gradually darkened. A flock of crows crossed the lake and returned to the forest, their silhouettes standing out against the faint glow in the sky. It was a curious moment when winter’s end and the beginning of spring seemed to overlap.
About two hours after sunset, more and more stars started appearing above the bridge. Before the night became completely dark, I retraced my steps along the path I’d come by, heading home.
