Fifteen years ago today, March 23, 2010, I was standing by the bank of the Otofuke River, watching the Taushubetsu Bridge across from me. The flow of melting snow was already picking up speed.

Of course, the bridge’s shape gradually changes over time, but when I think about it, the climate here and the condition of Lake Nukabira’s bed have also transformed quite a bit over these fifteen years.

Back then, even by late March, there was still plenty of snow. I can’t help feeling a bit nostalgic when I look back on those pictures and recall just how deeply winter held on in those days.
