〈雪景色、再来〉
10年前の今日、2015年4月3日はまとまった雪が降っていた。この辺りでは、5月の連休が明けるまではいつ雪が降っても不思議ではない。春めいてきたように見えても、一気に冬へ逆戻りすることがある。
タウシュベツ川橋梁を撮りに車を走らせていると、路肩に一頭のエゾシカを見つけた。何を思ったのか、ヘッドライトをつけて走ってくる車に向かって飛び出し、直前で足を滑らせて転倒。間一髪で轢かれることなく、そのまま森へと帰っていった。ときどきこういう挙動をするエゾシカがいるので気を抜けない。
季節が逆戻りした糠平湖は、雪にうっすら覆われた森と、向こう岸に立つタウシュベツ川橋梁が白い世界を引き立てていた。コンクリートのアーチ橋に、冬の名残りが戻ったような景色。消えかけていた雪がまた積もっていく様子を見ていると、北国の春は一筋縄ではいかない、とあらためて感じさせられた。
Ten years ago today, on April 3, 2015, we had a heavy snowfall. Around here, it’s not unusual to get snow until after Japan’s Golden Week in May. Even if it seems like spring has arrived, winter can make an abrupt comeback.
While driving to photograph the Taushubetsu Bridge, I spotted a deer on the shoulder of the road. Suddenly, it dashed right toward the headlights and slipped just in front of the car. It barely avoided getting hit and ran back into the woods. This happens sometimes, so you really can’t let your guard down.
The snow-covered lake felt like a return to winter, with the forest lightly blanketed in white and the Taushubetsu Bridge standing across the way. It was like the arch bridge reclaimed a touch of winter scenery. Watching the snow pile up again where it had nearly melted reminded me once more: spring in these northern parts doesn’t come easily.
