〈氷が割れ、川が流れて、近づく春〉
4年前の今日、2021年4月5日のタウシュベツ川橋梁。うっすらと新しい雪が積もっているものの、湖底の氷はだいぶ薄くなっており、あちこちにひび割れも見られた。冬と春が行きつ戻りつするこの時期、目に入る景色は日ごとに変化する。
白い雪原のなかには、タウシュベツ川の黒い流れがはっきりと走っていた。まだ雪解け水が一気に増えるほどの気温上昇はない。川の水量も落ち着いているようで、増水を迎える前の静かな空気が感じられた。
人気のないタウシュベツ川橋梁が、まるで静かに春を待ちわびているかのように立っていた。
Four years ago today, on April 5, 2021, the Taushubetsu Bridge still stood over a lakebed covered in thin ice dusted with fresh snow. Cracks had already formed here and there, showing how winter and spring were tussling for control.
In the middle of that white plain, the dark flow of the Taushubetsu River was clearly visible. It wasn’t quite warm enough yet for a huge rush of meltwater, so the river’s volume remained calm, giving the place a quiet, almost waiting atmosphere.
No one else was around, and it felt like the bridge itself was patiently anticipating spring’s arrival.
