〈長い冬のおわり、一瞬の幻想〉
6年前の今日、2019年4月12日の早朝。雪が降ったあとの糠平湖にはガスが漂い、タウシュベツ川橋梁も幻想的な風景の一部になっていた。
真冬のように一日中氷点下が続く時期には見られない光景で、かといって雪が降らない時期にも現れない。この絶妙な条件がそろう日は、北海道の長い冬のなかでも本当に限られる。
やがて雪雲が消え、朝の日射しが橋を照らすころには、アーチの影がきれいに雪原へ落ちていた。
壁の崩落が進んだいまでは、あれほど整った影ももう見られなくなった。ほんの数年のうちにも風景が変わっていく。
Six years ago today, on the early morning of April 12, 2019, fresh snow had fallen on Lake Nukabira, and a light mist drifted across the surface. The Taushubetsu Bridge became part of a magical scene in that hazy atmosphere.
It’s a sight you rarely see during the heart of winter, when temperatures stay below freezing all day, and it also doesn’t happen once the snow season has truly passed. This perfect mix of conditions is surprisingly rare, even during Hokkaido’s long winter.
Before long, the snow clouds cleared and the morning sun lit the bridge, casting a beautiful arch-shaped shadow onto the snowy field.
But now that parts of the walls have collapsed further, we probably can’t see such a neat shadow anymore. It’s a reminder that in just a few years, the landscape can change in dramatic ways.
